founded in 2004 by andrew palermo and taye diggs, dre.dance has quickly garnered praise from the new york times, the new york post, the new yorker, new york magazine, the new york sun and other publications, calling the young company 'powerful', 'athletic', 'gifted', 'passionate', 'propulsive', 'unexpected', 'weird', 'abstract', and 'wonderful'.

beyond.words
concept / direction: andrew palermo
choreography: andrew palermo / taye diggs
running time: 1 hr
music: nico muhly, tv on the radio

beyond.words dives into the world of autism with wonder and sympathy. inspired by first-person accounts of individuals on 'the spectrum', the movement vocabulary for beyond.words was created from movement workshops with children with autism as well as extensive research that interprets the inner-battle between maelstrom and serenity that people with autism describe as an ongoing dialogue within themselves.

'palermo and diggs have made a fascinating and truly moving portrait of autism.'
-theateronline

'for 13 years, i've tried to understand my son's autism. in one night, i learned more about his feelings, his concerns, his movements, his world from dre.dance's beyond.words.'
-peter bell, executive vice president, autism speaks

dre.diohead
concept / choreography: andrew palermo
additional choreography: taye diggs
running time: 50 minutes
music: radiohead

dre.diohead is abstractly set within a city block, where the lines that define public and private life are blurred as we traverse from the characters' homes to their shared street.

'if dre.dance were a drink they would be whiskey on the rocks. no twists or garnishes or anything to subdue their flavor - just raw unadulterated dance so strong it barely needs a space to contain it'.
-eileen elizabeth-idanz

the people
concept / direction: andrew palermo
choreography: andrew palermo / taye diggs
running time: 1 hr
music: rob reddy (performed live by special arrangement)

the people combines composer rob reddy's unique and stirring sound with dre.dance's propulsive and emotional choreography. the interpretive narrative work weaves text (recorded and live) through choreography to illuminate issues of social poignancy and opportune consideration.

'(the choreography was) nuanced and resonant, sensitive responses to the idiosyncratic rhythms and instrument pairings of mr. reddy's score'.
-roslyn sulcas-the new york times

me, myself and lie
choreography: andrew palermo / taye diggs
running time: 30 minutes
music: andrew palermo, damien rice, rufus wainwright, alexandre desplat, lewis taylor

me, myself and lie is a work divided. part I focuses on the self, our reflections, our fragmentations. part II looks into how those fragments function and survive in a chaotic and sometimes hostile world.

'gutsy, rooted movement that blessedly lacked the earnest feel of many ventures by new companies. (palermo's) choreography, like his music, boils up with clear, well-ordered disruptions'.
-jennifer dunning-the new york times

pre.view
concept / direction: andrew palermo
choreography: andrew palermo / taye diggs
running time: 40 minutes
music: michael john lachiusa (performed live, 4 players)

pre.view is a classic greco-tragic love-triangle told in reverse.

'powerful dancing. inventive movement'
-roslyn sulcas-the new york times

shorter repertory works

loose change (solo)
choreography: taye diggs
staging: andrew palermo
running time: 6 minutes
music: david ryan harris

of the four outstanding numbers that made up act ii, (desmond) richardson's solo, loose change, was the highlight. coming across as a kind of personal prayer, choreographer taye diggs utilized the soulful sounds of 'if i had a dime' by david ryan harris to merge influences from hip-hop to break-dance to african.
-jennifer wesnousky-explore dance.com
